Hi! We are in our pilot phase for our new Inspire Program! See anything that could be better or changed?

To complete the Daisy STEM Career Exploration Badge, complete the following steps:
Materials Required: white paper, crayons/markers, pencils
What She Does: Watch the Daisy Planet, World, or Story video on the GSOC Inspire site. Ask your Girl Scouts what careers they are interested in learning about to help make your choice on what path to take.
Optional: You are more than welcome to watch more than one!
Learn About a STEM Career: Watch at least 2 videos about specific career women. Choose two women to explore in depth from your video, or check out the Career Women Library.
Make a vision frame!
Ask Brownies, “how can you turn what you like today into a career in the future?”. Talk about different careers they can have based on their interest. Interested in animals, you could be a zoologist or a veterinarian! Interested in art? You could be an animator or an art teacher. Interested in playing video games? You could design games!
Explain that Brownies are going to create a vision frame that reflects their chosen job. They will draw a picture of themselves in the frame doing the job. They will then answer questions under the frame.
Instruct Brownies to draw a box on the top half of their worksheet. This is where they will draw the picture. Underneath the box they will write,
Job: __________________________
What I do: _____________________________
Where I work: __________________________
Today I can learn: _____________________ (What can they do today to help them in this job in the future. Do they want to be a Zoo Keeper? They can learn about different animal species. Do they want to be a fashion designer? They can learn how to sew.)
If Brownies are unsure on what to choose, remind them that this is a chance for us to learn about different jobs and teach others, it's okay if you are not sure what you want to be now!
When everyone is done, invite Brownies to share their questions and drawings. Ask questions to encourage discussion, such as “what are some things you like most about this job? How do you use STEM?”.
For more fun: You could host an “interview show”. Bring Girl Scouts up to the front and interview them using the questions they answered. Turn them into questions such as, “What is your job? Where do you work? What do you wear for this job? What do you do everyday in this job? What can students learn today to help them prepare for this job?”
Now What? Thank your Girl Scouts for their participation! Remind them that they can do anything they set their mind to! This is a great spot to provide motivation and support for their hopes and dreams. It also provided an idea on how to get started, doing things that interest them! The importance of trying something new too, maybe they will find a new activity that they never thought of and they really like! They have a long way away from picking a career, but they always have the chance to follow their dreams and learn new things!
Take it Further: Pick some STEM topics your Girl Scouts were really interested in and find time to do a new STEM badge! Interested in being an Astronaut? Check out the Space Science Badge! Animal Sciences? Check out the Pets Badge!
